amateur theatre group is the name chosen by Andrew James Murphy to release music written across a decade previous but never completed. The nine recordings on races 1990 - 2021 contain the voices and instruments of musicians he has played with since his teens – namely Davy and Iain Berryman – and frame amateur theatre group as more an open collective than a solo performance or traditional band.

The amateur theatre group debut also hosts two tracks written specifically for the album, the creation of which precipitated a creative surge after a difficult dozen years to ensure the project is not limited to one 35-minute retrospective.
